The Finale

Season twenty-nine marked the end of The Voice's run on NBC, the format's fourteenth year on air. Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, Adam Levine, and Kelsea Ballerini — Ballerini on her coaching debut — brought the show to a close with the attention a finale commands.

01The take

The Finale.

Fourteen years, one last chair turn — the format's final season.
02The shape of the season

A rhythm worth tracking.

Season twenty-nine carried the gravity of a final chapter. Kelsea Ballerini's coaching debut gave the blind auditions a new angle while Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, and Adam Levine provided the continuity a closing season earns. The format ran with the focused energy a series finale generates — coaches and contestants both aware of the occasion. The show closed with the same format integrity it brought to its debut, which is a cleaner exit than most long-running competition series manage.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #28 slot.

Slot #28 of 29 in the The Voice Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
