The sharpest verbal season in the franchise

The Read

A single-season addition who could go word-for-word with anyone in the cast. Season seven is a verbally intensive season — sharper in register than almost anything the show had aired before, with a Puerto Rico trip that puts that sharpness on display.

01The take

The Read.

The cast at its most articulate and most combative — sometimes simultaneously.
02The shape of the season

A rhythm worth tracking.

Season seven is defined by a single new addition whose verbal facility matched — and frequently exceeded — the cast she joined. The season has a sharper, more articulate register than what surrounded it, and the friction that produced was television the franchise hadn't quite aired before. Puerto Rico gives the season its most concentrated sequence. This is also the final full-time season for one of the show's foundational cast members, which gives it a natural chapter-closing energy.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #05 slot.

Slot #05 of 15 in the Real Housewives of Atlanta Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
