Aired summer 2015 · The celebrity-guest twist

BB Takeover

The summer the producers handed weekly twist authority to a rotating cast of celebrity guests, each landing in the BB studio to drop a new mechanic into the game. The Takeover device pulls the show's pacing in five directions at once, and the cast — seventeen houseguests including a mid-season twin reveal — never quite settles into the rhythm a Big Brother summer wants. A season the franchise tried, learned from, and quietly walked back. Useful for the experiment.

02Where it sits in the canon

The #22 slot.

Slot #22 of 27 in the Big Brother Editor's Canon. Twenty-second, ranked below Exes in the House because a season split five ways by rotating celebrity guests never settles into anything as legible as a single unrepeatable twist, even a rough one. BB Takeover still sits ahead of Camp Comeback, though, because whatever the Takeover format's problems, they're problems with the twist itself — a mechanic the franchise tried, disliked, and dropped. That's a cleaner kind of canon failure than what put Camp Comeback in a lower slot, where the issue isn't the format's ambition but what the season came to represent once it aired.
