Slot #04 of 38 in the Amazing Race Editor's Canon. Season 5 is the summer experiment, and the canon rewards it for landing the case the format had quietly needed to make. CBS moved the fifth outing into July and gave Phil Keoghan a thirteen-leg route from Santa Monica through Uruguay, southern Africa, the Russian Far East, and back across the Pacific. The casting leans heavier on long-running romantic partnerships than the prior runs, which gives the editing room to sit with friction the hour-to-hour pacing usually skates past. The canon places it fourth because the season earns its summer slot and quietly establishes that the race travels in any week of the calendar.
