First season without Blake Shelton — Reba McEntire makes her debut

The Reset

Season twenty-four arrived as a genuine reset: the first cycle without Blake Shelton or any founding-era coach. Reba McEntire and Chance the Rapper debuted alongside Kelly Clarkson and returning Niall Horan, giving the blind auditions the most wide-ranging panel in years.

01The take

The Reset.

No founding-era anchors, two new coaches — the format starting a new chapter.
02The shape of the season

A rhythm worth tracking.

Season twenty-four was the cleanest break the format had made since its debut: no original-era coach, no founding anchor, just four coaches — two of them new — competing from scratch. Reba McEntire brought a country credibility distinct from Shelton's; Chance the Rapper brought a hip-hop perspective the show hadn't seated before. The combination gave the blind auditions genuine variety. A transitional season that earned more attention than it received, carrying the charge a genuine reset produces.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #20 slot.

Slot #20 of 29 in the The Voice Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
