01The take
New York.
The grammar fashion competition still uses — the workroom, the runway, the judges' table — drafted in real time across twelve episodes.
02The shape of the season
A rhythm worth tracking.
The foundational season. Twelve designers in a Parsons workroom, a host the audience is meeting for the first time, and a mentor whose now-iconic walk-throughs are still finding their rhythm. The format is small and exposed in a way later seasons can't replicate — the cast is unguarded, the judging is unhurried, and the runway shows are read with patience. tiered.tv's canon places it second because every later season is a refinement of what this one invented.
03Where it sits in the canon
The #02 slot.
Slot #02 of 20 in the Project Runway Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
