Shop Wars

Shop Wars rebuilds the format around the tattoo shop rather than the individual artist. Nine rookie shops face nine veteran shops in a tag-team elimination structure, and for the first time the prize belongs to the shop, not to any single artist.

01The take

Shop Wars.

The trophy stops belonging to a person — for the first time, an entire shop wins or loses together.
02The shape of the season

A rhythm worth tracking.

Shop Wars is the format's most structural swing yet: nine rookie shops against nine veteran shops, competing in a tag-team elimination format where the shop's fate matters more than any single artist's. The prize itself moves — for the first time, a shop wins together rather than an individual artist walking away alone. It's the clearest test the format has run of whether teamwork translates to better tattooing under real pressure.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #04 slot.

Slot #04 of 17 in the Ink Master Editor's Canon. Shop Wars asks a question the format hadn't asked before: what happens when the tattoo shop, not the individual artist, is the unit that wins or loses? Nine rookie shops face nine veteran shops in a tag-team elimination structure, and a single artist's bad round can put an entire shop's collective reputation at risk. That collective stake changes the texture of every challenge — technique still matters, but so does how a shop functions as a unit under pressure. It's the format's fullest team experiment, and it earns its slot by testing something the show hadn't tried in eight seasons: whether craft holds up when it isn't just personal.

04What to watch for

3 moments, no spoilers.

  • Premiere · shop rosters introduced

The season opens by establishing each shop as its own unit — watch how the show frames shop identity and reputation before a single elimination happens.

  • Mid-season · tag-team eliminations

The tag-team elimination structure means one artist's bad round can put their whole shop at risk — a different kind of pressure than the format usually runs.

  • Late · shop loyalty under real pressure

As shops thin out, watch how loyalty within a team gets tested once the competition narrows and every remaining artist matters more.
