Aired fall 2022 · Age-split cast, third experiment of its kind

Hell's Kitchen:
Battle of the Ages

Hell's Kitchen splits its eighteen chefs by decade — twentysomethings against fortysomethings — in the franchise's third age-themed cast experiment. The division reshuffles after three episodes, giving the season a two-act structure built on a premise it doesn't fully commit to.

01The take

Battle of the Ages.

An age-split that dissolves in episode three tells you everything about where the season's real interest lies.
02The shape of the season

A rhythm worth tracking.

Battle of the Ages opens with a clean premise — twentysomethings against fortysomethings — then reorganizes by gender after three episodes. The shift is honest about what the age gap could and couldn't sustain as a competitive structure. Christina Wilson and Jason Santos return as sous-chefs on opposite sides of the pass. What remains is a standard Hell's Kitchen run with a decorated entry point and a cast that knows exactly who they are competing against once the reorganization lands.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #24 slot.

Slot #24 of 24 in the Hell's Kitchen Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
