Fall 2014.
A cast built for fan engagement — the kind of season where the phone-vote dynamic does as much work as the judges' scorecards.
A rhythm worth tracking.
Season nineteen leaned on a celebrity cast with strong public-recognition energy, and the live-vote format rewarded that. The weekly phone-vote dynamic was more active than in neighboring seasons — the gap between judges' scores and audience votes drove the competitive narrative through the middle episodes. Twelve episodes gave the elimination arc adequate room, and the cast delivered the format's core pleasures reliably. The fan-engagement texture distinguishes it from seasons that let the choreography do all the work.
The #17 slot.
Slot #17 of 34 in the Dancing with the Stars Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
