Fall 2013.
The first single-season format year — a new rhythm that gave the fall run more room to breathe.
A rhythm worth tracking.
Season seventeen was the first edition under the single-season-per-year model that replaced the double cycle. Thirteen episodes gave the elimination arc more development room than the eleven-episode spring runs had allowed. The celebrity cast brought a workable mix of entertainment and athletic backgrounds, and the competitive field stayed reasonably open through the middle episodes. The format transition itself was the defining context — the rhythm changed, even if the structure on the floor did not.
The #19 slot.
Slot #19 of 34 in the Dancing with the Stars Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
