The cast ranged across celebrity types — entertainment veterans, athletes, reality figures — producing uneven early-episode choreography and a competitive field that reshuffled unpredictably. The judging panel and the phone vote diverged sharply at key points, and the gap between artistic merit and public popularity was more visible here than in most seasons. Jennifer Grey's Dirty Dancing biography gave the season a clear cultural through-line.
