Renegades Era

The strategic-era pivot. Thirteen houseguests, an "Adam and Eve" premiere that drops two players in alone before the rest arrive, and an alliance born inside that becomes franchise lore. The Renegades era starts here. The casting reads sharper than the winter season that preceded it, and the producers seem to have learned what the show is selling. Watch it for the moment Big Brother takes its alliance vocabulary seriously, on a cast that holds against the old era's best.

02Where it sits in the canon

The #04 slot.

Slot #04 of 27 in the Big Brother Editor's Canon. Fourth, directly ahead of the three returnee-era seasons it makes possible. Veterans vs. Newbies, Coaches Twist and the Brigade all draw on an alliance vocabulary this season invents in real time, and the canon ranks the originator over its descendants even though later seasons refine the idea. That is the case for placing Renegades Era above three seasons that, taken individually, might cast a deeper bench. It sits below the all-star tier because those seasons had the benefit of hindsight and returning players; this one had neither, and still set the terms the rest of the decade played by.
