The British Invasion.
The British-versus-American structure gives the competition a real edge — the format change is the most effective of the late CW era.
A rhythm worth tracking.
Cycle 18's split-cast format is the most structurally interesting experiment the late CW era attempted. Pitting nine British contestants against nine Americans generates a competitive dynamic that reads differently from the standard open casting — national loyalties add a layer the competition can actually use. London's fashion industry backdrop gives the early episodes strong editorial context, and the Hawaii finale stretch delivers a visual contrast. The format works better than most of the cycle's contemporaries managed.
The #17 slot.
Slot #17 of 24 in the America's Next Top Model Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
