The Farewell.
A season shaped by its own ending — the farewell framing turns the competition into a retrospective in real time.
A rhythm worth tracking.
Season fifteen is American Idol on Fox, closing. The network announced the farewell framing before the season aired, and the production used it fully — returning alumni, judges from earlier eras making appearances, the live rounds carrying an explicit sense of occasion. The competition ran shorter than most Fox seasons. The elegiac register is not always the best television, but as a capstone for fifteen seasons on one network, it earns its sentiment. A finale worth watching for the history.
The #08 slot.
Slot #08 of 23 in the American Idol Editor's Canon. The seasons on either side show what I ranked it against.
