Aired summer 2022 · First Labrador run, subarctic coastal Canada

Labrador

Season nine brought the show to Labrador — subarctic eastern Canada, a location with no Alone precedent. Ten survivalists encountered boreal forest, tundra edges, and coastal conditions between the Pacific Northwest and the full Arctic interior.

01The take

A new Canadian biome.

Labrador gives the format a new Canadian biome — colder than Vancouver Island, more coastal than the Arctic interior.
02The shape of the season

Shortest summer nights yet.

Season nine introduced Labrador as an Alone location — a subarctic coastal wilderness between the temperate Pacific Northwest and the full Arctic interior. The boreal forest and tundra edges of eastern Canada bring their own gear calculus: colder than Vancouver Island, windier and more coastal than the Northwest Territories interior, with shorter summer nights and a demanding food environment. Ten survivalists navigated the location without any prior Alone template to reference. A solid new-biome entry in the Colby era.

03Where it sits in the canon

The #09 slot.

Slot #09 of 12 in the Alone Editor's Canon. Ninth for a solid new-biome entry that let the location carry the season without additional structural novelty. Labrador's subarctic coast puts survivalists in a genuinely distinct environment from anything in the show's prior run — the boreal forest and tundra edges of eastern Canada sit between the temperate Pacific rainforest and the full Arctic interior in terms of demands. Ten survivalists entered the location without any prior Alone template to reference, which gives the season the fresh-cast energy the format runs best on. A reliable Colby-era entry that expanded the show's geographic range.
